Free or inexpensive pdf editor?

I’m looking for a free ( hopefully ) or inexpensive PDF EDITOR that will let me take pdf files and type in the forms on the page.

I get a few pdf files sent with forms to be filled and I would like to be able to fill the forms on the computer rather than printing them and then filling with a pen.

Need recommendation of a PDF editor that shows statistics for tracked changes

My father has been using Acrobat 8 for ages. He can’t upgrade to Acrobat 9 or above because, for whatever reason, these newer versions are lacking an important feature: being able to see statistics when comparing two versions of a document (change tracking), such as how many words were inserted, removed or otherwise altered in the new version of the document.

However, his Acrobat 8 recently started crashing and became unusable. He tried reinstalling and several other things, but it hasn’t been fixed. As such, if there is an alternative software that also shows statistics for change tracking, he could use that instead.

I have Foxit PDF, but it only shows the number of pages that are different, not how many words were changed.

How to save filled out PDF forms?

I have some gov forms, proof of service, etc… I want to do a partial fill out of most fields, then change the date and other fields.

I thought I did this before, with a book mark and it didn’t work. Then I did a “save page as…” and it doesn’t save the data in the fields.

How do I save the data in a field inside of a PDF that’s found online?

So if you fill out some of the fields, how do you save that?

This is a document used by the landlord to inform the lessee that you want to terminate the contract. Not only non-payment of the rent but also the excess of sound limits, causing damage to the building and property are the most common reasons to issue the letter.
The document gives the tenant the opportunity to settle a problem for three days. If they fail to do so, they have to leave the building. Otherwise, the landlord can sue.
Read below how to create the notice.

What Information to Include in the Letter?

First of all, find the appropriate fillable blank on the Internet. Evaluate the data you have to provide. Below read the approximate content of the letter.

• Write about the property and the lessee in the first paragraph. 
• Indicate the reason for preparing the notice. 
• Specify conditions and demands. Sign the document by typing, drawing or uploading a signature from any internet connected device.

So I am working on a document where I am trying to spawn and destroy pages as needed. I have the pages spawing but the issue I am running into is the page is missing some of the content. Proximity search in Adobe Acrobat

For instance, I have two terms: “red apple” and “beautiful black shoes”. I want to use index search to find those two terms in 9 of my books. I previously set the range of words for proximity searches to 300 using edit—> preferences—> search. But I don’t know how to structure a query. The only option on which the “proximity” check box is not grayed out is “Match all of the words” but I also tried “Boolean query”, “Match any of the words” and it did not work out.

I tried Booleans: 1) “red apple” AND “beautiful black shoes” 2) red apple AND beautiful black shoes I tried with commas: 1) “red apple” , “beautiful black shoes” 2) red apple , beautiful black shoes. I also tried with brackets and parenthesis but nothing didn’t work. Is there a way to search two or more terms in a certain range of words?

[Guide] Bulk fill out a form from Excel data (Adobe Acrobat DC Pro required) via /r/pdf

[Guide] Bulk fill out a form from Excel data (Adobe Acrobat DC Pro required)

Problem:

I have PDF form (which has a labeled form) that I need to fill out based on data I have in an excel sheet. The output should be one filled out instance of the PDF form per each row of the Excel data sheet. Additionally, I want to print all of them at the end easily.

Bonus:

This works with languages (e.g. Hebrew) where there is a bug where even the filled out fields in a form (e.g. in Hebrew) do not appear unless you click on them or add something to them in English.

Solution:

This requires the use of Adobe Acrobat DC Pro due to the usage of the “Actions” feature!

• 1) Create or ensure that the PDF form has actual form fields (e.g. use the Prepare form function in Adobe Acrobat DC Pro) and that the form fields are labelled (preferably appropriately).
• 2) Ensure that the Excel sheet you want to fill out the forms from has only one proper table with headers (to distinguish the the data entries) and one data entry per table row.
• 3) Download BulkPDF (home page; github page) - a free and open source program that does the bulk of the work here. (kudos to some German fellow!)
• 4) Run it. Load the spreadsheet - make sure it detects the fields. Load the PDF in the next screen. Match the Value (via the “Select” button in the “Edit” column) to the Excel field. On the next screen select your generated naming preferences for each filled out form and the directory BulkPDF will save them in. Click Finish and let it run.

At this point this might be enough for you. Yet what if you wanted all these in one PDF and wanted to print it?

I had an issue with some entries in Hebrew not displaying in the outputted forms until I clicked on them or added some Egnlish. The other thing that also fixed the problem is to go in the “Prepare form” function in Adobe Acrobat DC Pro and give the field yet again a transparent background. So I scripted this solution and used actions to apply it to all the generated PDFs!

• a) Open the “Actions Wizard” under “Tools” in Adobe Acrobat DC Pro.
• b) Select “New Action”.
• c) Add (to a pre-existing “Open” action) “Execute JavaScript” under “More Tools”.
• d) Un-tick the “Prompt User” checkbox in the added “Execute JavaScript” action (so it won’t prompt to run the code on each PDF)

• e) Click “Specify settings” in the added “Execute JavaScript” action and add the following code (it iterates over all fields int he form and makes the background transparent as per my aforementioned manual solution just automated):

  for (var i = 0; i <= this.numFields; i++){ var fNa = this.getField(this.getNthFieldName(i)); if (fNa.type == “text”) { fNa.fillColor = color.transparent; } }

• f) Click “OK”. Add a “Save” action under “Save & Export”. Click Save.

• g) On the right, select the newly created action and give it all the outputted PDFs from BulkPDF. Click start and wait for it to finish!

[End optional]

• 5) At this point if you try to merge the PDFs using Adobe it won’t let you as the form field labels have the same names and will ask you to make a portfolio which isn’t a single PDF and you can’t really print it all in one shot. The solution is to flatten all of our PDFs loosing any form related labels and converting the the filled in form data to regular text. How to do it on all the docs? Simple - JavaScript and Actions! Follow the Bonus step written out above but instead of that piece of code insert the following: flattenPages();

• 6) Now you can merge/combine the PDFs using Acrobat Pro (or whatever else) and have a single PDF with the filled out data form Excel that you can print or send to someone!

This took my till 2AM to figure out not wanting to deal with Python at that point. BulkPDF is something Adobe Acrobat Pro should have built in… And the darn bug with the foreign language text that I spent 2 hours finding a workaround for!

EDIT: trying to fix formatting. The four-space-indent-for-code thing does not work =(.

In said news paper, I run across an interesting article/column that I want to extract so that I can send it as a fair use clipping to a friend. Is there any way to do that using open source tools (I’m a linux desktop user familiar with pdftk)?

Renting out a property is a complicated process, that should be supported by a range of documents. It is very important to make your tenant sign a lease agreement in order to avoid any possible misunderstandings. Each basic residential lease agreement template should include certain basics. We offer you to look through the list of tips:

1. Any agreement completed correctly has answers on four main questions: “who?”, “when?”, “where?” and “what?”. Clearly state who the lease is between. Don’t forget to include the third party if your lawyer or an agent is involved in the leasing.
   
2. Identify the property. Specify the name and the accurate address. Include house number, street name, apartment number, house, state and postal code.
   
3. Determine the term of the rental contract. It’s very important for every party to know when the contract is valid. Include the exact date (day, month and year) when the lease begins and ends.
   
4. It’s advisable to clearly state the full amount of rent due over the period of the entire lease and then break it down by the amount due per month. Choose the date on which the payment is due.
   
5. The contract should be signed to become legally binding. The signatures serve as a confirmation that the landlord and the tenant agree to follow the terms of the accord. The tenants should be over the age of 18 and named in the “parties” clause of the document.
   

Follow five simple rules to close the deal successfully. Make a hard copy of the contract to keep it for your records. Give another one copy to your tenant. If you have any additional questions about any specific circumstances ask a legal counsel for advice

Resize, reposition PDF

I have a PDF I want to print out and it’s more than a thousand pages.

The problem - it’s all very small for some reason. Please look at the PDF.

I can do a custom scale and looks much better at around 120% and auto portrait orientation. Is it possible to re position it so that it moves up an inch or two? There’s a lot of space up top and none of the bottom.

Looking for tools to compress PDF ebooks

I maintain a large collection of technical ebooks in PDF format. Most of them have been between 2MB-10MB in size, but I noticed a disturbing trend where recent ebooks have been jumping to 50MB-300MB in size. Most of the increase is due to more images and greater image resolution being used, but at the same time publishers are getting sloppy and not bothering to optimize the PDF files in any way.

I’m looking for a tool or set of tools that can optimize PDF files using the following techniques, and any others I missed. The only one I’ve found to date is cpdf, but it only handles a couple of these.

• remove duplicate embedded fonts / combine overlapping font subsets
• replace type 1 fonts with compressed fonts (CFF)
• remove invisible and 1x1 pixel images
• replace duplicate images with references
• replace inefficient encodings
• remove restrictions
• remove onload uri requests (/OpenAction)
• remove additional actions (/AA)
• remove javascript (/JavaScript)
• remove flash (/RichMedia)
• remove old incremental updates
• remove certain types of xmp metadata
• flatten forms
• remove embedded files
• recompress suitable images with jbig2 and optipng+zopflipng / jpeg-recompress
• replace external streams / alternate images
• remove empty pages (or pages marked ‘this page intentionally left blank’)

I work in an ER where everything is still handwritten. I am working on a PDF that would print only the text onto the face sheet that we are given for each patient. What is difficult is creating a drop down menu with a template that can be edited quickly. Example would be choosing Abdominal Pain from the drop down and the multi-line text box would show:
