Delete pages from document without altering page numbering using Acrobat Pro DC?

To be clear about what my use case is, let’s say I have a magazine and I’m deleting advertisement pages. I don’t want the (Bates?) numbering to change so that the Table of Contents at the beginning of the magazine remains accurate.
